I am doing backflips over Jeff Nichols quitting “A Quiet Plave: Part III.” Deadline had reported a few months back that Paramount hired Nichols to write and direct the third film in the “A Quiet Place” franchise. Actor-filmmaker John Krasinski helmed the first two.
My understanding then was that Nichols coming into this franchise basically meant that opportunities to make personal arthouse films were scarce. The director of “Midnight Special,” “Take Shelter,” “Mud,” and “Loving,” surely deserved better than this.
Finally, Nichols has left the franchise amicably, parting with the project in favor of working on another untitled science-fiction project from Paramount. Great news.

Following a successful reboot of the franchise, Paramount has been trying for years to get a fourth “Star Trek” movie together. Previous incarnations attempted to bring back the cast led by Chris Pine as James T. Kirk and hoped to employ time travel conceits to include Chris Hemsworth, who plays Kirk’s father, seen in the initial 2009 “Star Trek” reboot by J.J. Abrams. Talks broke down over salary with the cast— “Star Trek Beyond” wasn’t all that financially successful, and the studio had to hold a hard line over cost— and the studio attempted to consider other “Star Trek” films, including one from Quentin Tarantino and screenwriter Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant”), and another from Noah Hawley.
Now, things have changed, and Paramount seems to have inadvertently put themselves in the same position and at an even greater disadvantage. Last week, during Paramount’s big investor day event, the studio announced they were planning to shoot “Star Trek 4” by the end of 2022 with the original cast, Pine et al., returning. But one major problem. The announcement was apparently premature on Paramount’s part. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that agents representing Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña, and John Cho were just as surprised as fans that their clients would be returning for a fourth film since no talks had resumed and certainly no deals were in place.

Neil Widener and Gavin James are scripting the project, whose plot details are being kept under wraps.
The spinning top toys – a competitor of Pokemon – were originally developed by Japanese firm Takara and have been licensed by different toy companies including Hasbro. The battling tops concept inspired manga, anime and comics series, followed by localized international TV versions, all based around a Beyblade fighting tournament.
Early Beyblades included Ultimate Frostic Dranzer, Spin Dragoon and Saizo. The tops fight in arenas called Beystadiums, which have something of the colosseum about them with open sections in the walls and openings on the sides to launch into. Each Beyblade has a BeyLauncher, used to launch into battle.

Why Are Movies So Long Now?

Did a chill go down your spine when you noticed Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman” was just shy of three hours long?
Maybe you feel, along with other comic book enthusiasts, there’s no such thing as too much Bruce Wayne. Three hours? Five hours? Inject it directly into your eyeballs.
Or, after two years of pandemic isolation, perhaps you’ve gotten so used to pausing the TV every 30 seconds to check your phone, grab a snack, use the restroom or doom-scroll on Twitter. The thought of spending 180 uninterrupted minutes staring at a silver screen is so daunting, you’ve considered skipping “The Batman” altogether.
Moviemakers take all those reactions into consideration when they deliver their final cut. A-list actors in leading roles, a big-name director and a compelling pitch are key in selling a film, of course. But a movie’s running time is one of the less flashy yet deliberately thought-out elements. Unlike precisely timed network television shows, movies have flexibility. But there are good reasons why studios and directors want to avoid bloat — though in some instances, it’s unavoidable.

Moviemakers take all those reactions into consideration when they deliver their final cut. A-list actors in leading roles, a big-name director and a compelling pitch are key in selling a film, of course. But a movie’s running time is one of the less flashy yet deliberately thought-out elements. Unlike precisely timed network television shows, movies have flexibility. But there are good reasons why studios and directors want to avoid bloat — though in some instances, it’s unavoidable.
